From milazzo
Milazzo is the closest port servicing the Aeolian islands, with two main companies operating hydrofoils (high-speed option, taking about 1 hour to Lipari) and ferries (with the option to transport your car to the island). During the summer months there are hourly departures to Lipari. The month of August is especially busy, so we suggest that you reserve your transport in advance. From catania Airport
From April through October, there is a direct bus from Catania Airport to Milazzo (distance of 150 km), operated by Giuntabus.
During the winter months, you must travel first to Messina on a bus operated by SAIS, then to Milazzo with Giuntabus. Travel time to Messina is about 90 minutes, and travel time from Messina to Milazzo is about 45 minutes.

FROM palermo
The airport in Palermo is 230 km from Milazzo, which is about 2 hours and 30 minutes by car. Liberty Lines also operates hydrofoils from the Port of Palermo to Lipari. You can take the Prestia e Comande airport bus, which has a stop directly across the street from the Port of Palermo. It's the penultimate stop before reaching the main train station.
